An Educator's Guide to Substance Use Prevention
Take Action in Secondary Schools has been designed to build upon the capacity of educators and other members of the school community (e.g., administrators, public health professionals, parents, police etc.) to better understand and address substance use at the secondary school level. It has been developed as an enhancement to the minimum Health and Physical Education curriculum requirements, and to the strategies available to educators addressing substance use within their school setting, prior to a final course of action or conflict resolution, such as student suspension or legal action.

The Target is You
• 10 classroom-ready lesson plans for Grades 4 to 11.
• “The Target Is You” uses a media education approach to explore the messages and techniques of alcohol advertising aimed at youth.
• Each lesson offers a combination of discussion guides, background information, and student activities and worksheets- lessons are bilingual, cross-curricular (e.g., annual MADD writing/poster contest, writing assignments), and comprehensive (e.g. parental involvement, sports advertising).
